Info.. on HOA Rules

I don't know to much on how HOA works besides following the rules buy what happens when things are not being done to keep up the neighborhood? I have heard that people are not paying and therefore they do not have the money for all the up keep. So how do you go about getting people to pay besides sending them notices and how much can the president do to enforce these rules? There has to be someone in charge besides the yearly president. Any help would be appreciated

I used to work for District Court, and usually they (HOA) will file Civil Cases to try and collect. It may take a long while for the process, because they file 100's at a time. I don't know if this helps you at all.

Hmmm, I think this is an interesting question. I am not sure about the legalities in forcing to get people to pay, but I would consider a good look at your hoa first. What is the board like? What type of things have you done for the community which would give reason to pay? What can you do to increase the value of paying this? Would it work to send out a few well respected members of the community to go to the houses of those who are not paying and asking them what they can do to improve the hoa so that they would invest in it? I prefer this to knocking on doors and demanding payment as you may get better results and some much needed input. Perhaps even a payment option based on their suggestions being implemented. Given the economy some might not be paying simply because they can't. That doesn't make it right, just the reality.

I'm not the president but have notified the president about some of my concerns. The grass has not been cut yet and is taller than my dog I am going out this weekend and trying to cut what I can but there is alot to do and not sure if my push mower will go through it. We have had one meeting and it seemed as if things were going to change. They just raised it, for what? The only thing the money is getting used for is the lights in the homes sections and the two dumpsters. We did finally get signs fixed earlier this year finally.

So we are being punished (rates going up) for the others that aren't paying..... I'm sure of a few others that pay, but dang.

I think so but this has had to go on for awhile to get that high. So where is the money going still? If they were in the hole we still haven't been using hardly anything for us that have been paying. It's frustrating me and I have not heard anything back from the president. I volunteered some help.
