That isn't the spelling they used, but I suspect it's just a different langauge.
Levantades: Gales blowing from between north-northeast and east-northeast from the east coast of Spain. These gales are generally associated with slow-moving depressions (lows) crossing the Mediterranean between France and Algeria. They blow most frequently in spring (February to May) and autumn (October to December).

As a kid I always wondered why the little pump house at the bottom of the hill always exhausted out of its stack through the roof. Of course growing up around Leonardtown back then did'nt take much to intrigue us, cardboard box forts and so on...
