Cloudy pool water

I can't get the water in my pool to clear. It's white cloudy, not green, or dark but you can't see the bottom. The PH is 7.2 and the chlorine is within acceptable limits. We have used clarifier, algecide and have kept the filter running and clean. Any ideas on what to try next? Any help would be much appreciated.

Best thing to say is go have the water tested at a pool store, they can tell you on the spot what to put in to correct the cloudy condition.

Shock it. That should clear it up.

Used to work for Johnsons Pools in edgewater. I would suggest Muratic Acid to bring down the PH. Then after a few days shock it, and your water should be clear. But, they do have a water testing station with a print out for you, with easy directions!

Best advice, we do it all the time instead of spending bucks on chemicals we don't need, plus it cost nothing to have them test your sample at most (if not all) pool stores.

Thanks so much everyone! We have shocked more than once to no avail. I was under the impression you had to be a customer of a pool store in order for them to test your water, i.e. they open and close your pool.

Think I'll try lowering the Ph in the meantime as one poster suggested. Thanks so much!!

No, you don't have to be a customer. They will test your water, and tell you what you need. They usually ask for your name and address, etc., and keep a record of your pool water samples, so that they can track any ongoing problems and help you take necessary steps to correct or prevent them.

Definitely worth the 5 minutes to fill out the card.
