| Response to "Calvert Sucks" I am creating a new thread so that my post won't be lost among the many other responses to "Calvert Sucks". However, I do agree with Blackie that there isn't much in this county as far as jobs. It's hard to find anything decent unless you have a college education (preferably a degree) and/or know people that can hook you up. Otherwise you end up working some crappy retail job or doing some menial labor in a kitchen for a small wage that barely pays a phone bill. I also notice some people tell Blackie to go back to where he came from, but how can he do that when he doesn't have money? How can he make money if he doesn't have the resources? Another thing I agree with Blackie on is the fact that they built all those grocery stores in Lusby not too far apart from one another. Why can't they build something useful and more exciting like a mini-mall or spa? It seems the only thing there is to do around here is go to Starbucks or the Calvert Co. fair (when it's in town) and that's not even really fun. Further, it also seems like a lot of people in this county have a fixed mindset about how things are and get easily defensive about redneck and corn comments. Not everyone is going to like Calvert (including myself) and I don't see why it's a big deal if someone wants to blow off some steam via an online forum. Moreover, some of you guys might consider putting yourself in Blackie's position. What would you do if you lost everything - your car, job, money - not due to your poor choices but just out of crappy luck? How would you deal with not being able to find a job in a small town where no one wants to pay more than 8 bucks an hour? Wouldn't you get upset, too? Try to give some constructive input here. Telling people to "go back to where ya'll come from" doesn't do anything but add fuel to the fire. Let's try to work together. |

| Seriously - how do you expect to get a start in life? Most of us started at the bottom of the ladder and worked our way up to where we are now. I did not walk into a high salary on day one... I bagged groceries, went to doing the floors, night-stocking - went to school, got an education and slowly and surely worked my way up.How people do it today with multiple jobs with low pay, I have no clue... things are expensive, but I think it is also relative with the times. Meaning my 3.35/hour is the same at what 8.00/hour is today. |

| jobs are tough all over right now. PG is looking better for certain people because of the number of new government jobs being created,, I will leave it at that. others are right, go to that hole in the wall fast food place and make your stand. by the way, had a friend when I was in virginia beach that was a manager of a couple McDonalds, he was making over 80k a year at it. he started on the fries just to get money to survive while in college. I think he actually owns a couple of fast food places now. its all about how well you can sculpt a pile of poo.

Store clerk, lifeguard, oyster farmer (gross, dirty, smelly ), odd jobs to build a reputation, school in between, I didn't get a "good" paying job with benefits until I was 26, and then it was $10,000 a year. It's taken me many many years to work up to the level I am now.

| What is up with these kids wanting to start out making tons of money? Many adults that are making good money today can probably tell you their first or second job was either minimum wage or just above it. My son took a vocation in high school and just graduated he will probably be starting as an electricians apprentice soon here in Calvert and it will pay pretty good for his age, but that's the key, the better your education, the better the job you will get. |
