Its bad enough that half these threads never stay on topic and people who know each other have conversations. Pick up the phone if you want to talk to someone. All I'm saying is if you can't argue the topic then stop trying to degrade someone for their mis-typing or lack of proof reading.
He criticized the school system and said he's glad he home-schooled. If he can't type, spell and post intelligently, he has no business homeschooling or criticizing the school system. That's where the credibility factor comes to play.

Would you want a Dr. wearing his stethoscope backwards examining you??

And he most certainly was stating his opinion.

Since I take an active roll in my daughter education, I don't put all the blame on the school if my daughter does poorly. And some parents only care whats happened to their childs education when they see their report card, give them a do better speech, and hope the next one shows improvement!!!

Exactly.

The subject matter is being taught in the schools but isn't being reinforced in the homes as much.

Most people will never admit that if their child is a failure, the blame starts with the person in the mirror!!!

It was a rude awakening when I shadowed for a high school teacher. He was a new teacher and thus acquired all the 'standard' students. His counterpart taught the college prep and AP courses. The major difference he told me was parent involvement.

It's sad, really.

I will continue to parent my daughter, not pamper. One time my daughter and I were talking and she asked me why I was stricter than some of her friends parents and I told her point blank that it's our responsibility to prepare her for life without mommy or daddy. I said I could never be laid to rest knowing I left her in this world without the proper survival skills. And guess what, she's still a daddies girl and everyday I tell her I love her and every time I walk out my door, I ensure she gets a kiss goodbye. Life gives zero guarantees that a parent or parents will always make it home alive!!!

The most important thing she needs to grow up and be happy, you are giving her. It is love and guidance. Some kids get neither. It's great that you're so involved with your daughter. You can tell it's a core part of you.

Did I mention how proud I am of her also, she gave me a great fathers day card which read:

Dad, I know how much you may have wanted a son
and I may not be able to do all the things a boy can do
but I could always lower my IQ for you!!!

On the back it shows the father and daughter fishing together and the daughter lets out a big Buuurrrrp, and the father says, Good One!!!

That cards a keeper!!!

I've been so impressed by the parents helping their kids out this last week. Every day that I picked my son up from summer conditioning at GMHS there are these parents helping the kids by building and setting up props and stages for the summer stock program.
When the kids show up for practice you can see them straighten up and pay attention to these adults working and sweating just to make their show better.
That's something really great to see.

I agree, parents need to stop blaming the school system for their childrens behavior and lack of knowledge... If your kid is failing, its your responsability to sit down with them everyday and make sure they are doing there homework and studying... My daughter is at the top of her class not only because she is just a smart girl, but because I work with her constantly... but at the same time I don't put to much pressure on it to where she is going to hate it...
