Crate your dog. It will be the best thing you ever did. Establish routines on when you feed and let out. Dogs don't know 'time' so to compensate they establish routines. Your dog will love the crate; do not feel like you are 'punishing' it. They like the security and a place that is there own.

Dogs generally have to defecate within 10-20 minutes after they eat or drink. If you let him out within that time frame he will do his business and then about an hour later let him out again for about 20 minutes. With puppies you will have to let him or her out more often than you would an adult because they have smaller digestive systems and bladders and they can't hold it near as long. If he has an accident I would show it too him and tell him he is a bad boy and crate him for 30 minutes. Then put him out as soon as you let him of the crate and praise him like he is the best thing since sliced bread! You might even give him 1 small treat. It's called positive reinforcement. But don't over do it with the treats or you'll have a fat dog in no time. Good Luck, if you need anymore help just google house training puppies and you should come up with a lot of sites.

My pug is well housebroken and I do have a crate but actually took the door off. That is her space. If she wants a place to go and not be bothered she has it. Although she lays around about anywhere she wants to anyway

I was so anti-crating until I tried it. My malamute loves her crate and will go in there all by herself at night to sleep.

I am having som eissues with my mix puppy. She is 4 months old but is doing better. We dont have a fence so we have to take her our ourselfs. She has gotten better. We feed her at the same time everyday.Wait 5 mintues then take her out. At first she would take forever but now its in and out. She has only peed 3 times in the house in a the past week. But she poops in our kitchen everyday. I am thinking postive. At least its not on the carpet...lol!

This crate thing definately worked for us, however, we were told that we should never "punish" them with the crate thing because they would come to not use it as their "happy place".
Early on we would pannic because we couldn't find puppy, never thought to look in the crate though.
When accidents did occur, they were always by the door, I assumed then that it was our fault. At least one of us new she wanted out.
