HURRICANE ISABEL UPDATE

Calvert District
Source: Calvert District
Number of customers affected: approximately 9,400
Areas affected: From Dunkirk to Solomons Island
Cause of outage: hurricane, high winds, rain.

Charles/Prince George's District
Source: Charles/Prince George's District
Number of customers affected: approximately 21,000 customers in Charles County; approximately 1,000 in Prince George's County
Areas affected: Faulkner, Forest Park, Bensville Road, Westlake, Ryceville, Grayton, Piscataway, St. Charles, Accokeek, Indian Head, Mason Springs, Brandywine, Cedarville, Tompkinsville, Newburg & Nanjemoy
Cause of outage: High winds, heavy rain, trees on lines, broken poles, downed lines, etc.

St. Mary's District
Source: St. Mary's District
· Number of customers affected: 26,100
Areas affected: Milestown, Leonardtown, Valley Lee, Hollywood, Oakville, Patuxent Park, St. James, Piney Point, Lexington Park, Ridge, St. Andrews, Mechanicsville, Golden Beach
Cause of outage: hurricane, high winds, trees, rain

SMECO is still experiencing transmission-related outages affecting St. Mary's County substations Patuxent Park, Ridge, and Webster Field.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative will begin dry ice distribution at 10 a.m. today in the following locations:

Calvert County -- Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department, Solomon's Island Volunteer Fire Department
Charles/Prince George's counties -- Piccowaxen School, Wal-Mart in La Plata, Hughesville Volunteer Fire Department
St. Mary's County -- Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, Wal-Mart on Route 235
Please note that customers will be limited to two bags per household. Dry ice will be distributed while the supply lasts at the above locations. Other distribution locations may be selected for further distribution efforts.

SMECO doubled its workforce prior to the storm, and the Co-op is now obtaining other assistance for service restoration. Currently, the Co-op has 382 field personnel and 128 crews in operation. During the night service crews were dispatched to handle emergencies, transmission circuits and priority feeders. As of 6 a.m. this morning, all crews were dispatched to complete system repairs. The Co-op also has assessment teams traveling throughout the service territory to assess system damage. Presently, it may take up to several days to restore all service.

Areas affected: Chesapeake Ranch Estates, Calvert Beach, White Sands, Kings Landing, Coster Road, and Sollers Wharf Road. Approximately12 broken poles throughout the county. Two feeders are out.
Cause of outage: High winds, heavy rain, trees on lines, broken poles, downed lines, etc.

Number of customers affected: approximately 13,000 customers in Charles County; approximately 1,500 in Prince George's County
Areas affected: Marshall Corner, Faulkner, Forest Park, Bensville Road, Westlake, Ryceville, Grayton, Piscataway, St. Charles, Accokeek, Indian Head, Mason Springs, Brandywine, Cedarville, Tompkinsville, Newburg & Nanjemoy. Feeders in Marshall Corner, Piscataway and West Brandywine are still out.

Areas affected: Golden Beach; Ryceville; Hollywood; Milestown, Oakville; Ridge; St. James; Patuxent Park; Valley Lee; St. Andrews. The Patuxent Park substation is the last transmission outage.
Cause of outage: High winds, heavy rain, trees on lines, broken poles, downed lines, etc.

Earlier today SMECO distributed 48,000 pounds of ice. No more is available for today. We hope to get more dry ice on Saturday for distribution.

SMECO is appropriately downsizing crews to accomplish what we can during night hours. We will be dispatching all crews at 6:00 a.m. when they can work refreshed and more productively during the daylight.

Earlier today SMECO distributed 48,000 pounds of ice. No more is available for today. We hope to get more dry ice on Saturday for distribution.

I have to praise SMECO on this one!! We had 3 telephone poles that had to be replaced on Dares Beach Road (just before the turn onto our street). Two were broken and one leaning badly. They had them replaced and electricity back on last night. Great job.
