Duckpin Bowling

First time i ever saw candle pin was when i moved to Gardner Mass., had a hard time trying to explain to them what Duckpin bowling was.

We were just talking about duckpin bowling at work this week. Suitland was always fun. When you went there, you knew you were in Redskin territory! You could probably peel the nicotine off the walls though lol!

Really? candle pins look like candles cause they are slim and narrow.. duck pins look like ducks cause they are short and squatty/round at the bottom lol

The old duckpin alley in Suitland, was originally called Suitland Bowl. It was owned by Pat Crescenzi, who also owned Parkland Bowl. Pat sold the small bowling alley to Jimmy and Jacque Dietsch, who renamed it Jimmy and Jacque's Duck Bowl. The alley is now owned by Dee and Richard Rockwell, and is called Dee's Lanes. I know all this because I started working there when I was 15. I am still working there part time now. I no longer bowl, but I still know all of these bowlers you are mentioning. Some of them like Jeff Pyles will be bowling at Dee's in a tournament December 12,13 and 14th. Come out and see how many you might remember.

When I was young, Springfield, MA had a lawn bowling league. Bowls being an English game very similar to Italian Bocce or french Boulle.

Admiral Nelson is said to have played Bowls before going into battle against the french at trafalgar.

Nine pin and outside duckpin were also played, as well as 10 pin and Candle pin. The local Turnverein had their kegle lanes, too. :D
