Great Mills High School Athletics

In my opinion the GMHS Varsity lost its pride in football when they removed the G from the helmet. When will we get great football games back at GM? GM football haven't been contenders since my class graduated in 97. That's a long time.

I remember us winning 6 home games before they tore up the old field. It use to be where the parking lot is now. I also remember Coach Hoop and his brother Joey. Some of the best coaches ever in SMAC. Coach Hoop use to always tell us "Take it to the House".

We as a community need to get football back to St. Mary's and play some smash mouth football.

Do you SERIOUSLY think that the removal of a "G" on a helmet caused the demise of football at GMHS?

There are several teams at GMHS that are doing very well. I think their soccer teams are pretty stout, their Field Hockey team did well this year, and their girls basketball team went to States last year. It ain't ALWAYS about football.

Sorry I should have posted it better. My topic is strictly about football.

The problem is they tons of talent walking around that school but thet aren't eligible. I went to college and worked with coach and puts alot of energy and knowledge into that program with what he has that meets grades

I was going to post the exact same thoughts. That and the problem with so many students only being there for a year or two before mom/dad get transferred again...

This is true. But what can we as a community do to help these kids get better grades? Do we blame the parents or do we blame the students?

Maybe, since the "G" represented the word "great" somehow removing it removed the great from the players. This in turn took away the player's mojo and now they are just average kids again trying to play a game with out their super powers. I remember when I wasseven I had a Green Hornet lunch pail that I believed made me powerful. When I reached High School some mean kids got a hold of it and it was destroyed. This simple act left me very vulnerable and for the remainder of my high school years I was beat and picked on relentlessly.... All because the Green Hornets power was gone.

I didn't get my mojo back until years later and I entered the miltary and started working out every day...... It is possible that GMHS is a lousy football team becasue the "G" is gone..... Don't you think?

Nacho,

In my opinion I think the G was the heart and soul of GM. I use to love putting on that uniform. Made me feel like I was playing for the Green Bay Packers. It stood for something.
