From Who Left the Red Barn Door Open? « Boomer Twilight

Comment made by one of the readers:

"Red Barn chicken was good if not better than the Colonel (some say) because they used a chicken wash (vinegar and spices) which took out the odor raw chicken sometimes has. It was then dusted in their own secret breading and pressure cooked in Wesson corn oil. The oil was filtered each night to improve its life and taste. If you wanted to know." Jim

Wow, I never know anybody that remembers or has heard of him. I saw them at the Varsity Grill.

I saw him at several spots, including the Psychedeli in Bethesda, Armadillos in Annapolis, Crazy Horse in Georgetown, Chambers in Baltimore, No Fish Today in Baltimore. Great band. I was practically a groupie. George Bush threw him out of the dorm at Yale. He was a genius, but he pissed it away.

The bands were The Sex Change Band, Crying Out Loud, Capitol Offense, Black Silk Stockings. They were all good. Only changed a couple of people over the years, but changed the name all the time.

When I saw them it was The Sex Change Band, probably in late 77 or early 78.

I found this Root Boy Slim Official Website - D.C. Music Legend, but I don't know anything about the band other than what is on the web.

The Varsity Grill was right near the 'Vous. Across from the Little Tavern. Root Boy played there a few times. One of the few places who could put up with his crowd. When he played at Chambers in Baltimore in 1991, the people threw salsa all over the place. It was all over the walls. Chambers was a pretty small place, so it didn't take much to make a mess.
