Md 4 Approach to Thomas Johnson Bridge Resurfacing

Overnight Work Scheduled for St. Mary’s County Side of Bridge

(November 28, 2008) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will resurface the MD 4 (Patuxent Beach Road) approach to the south side (St. Mary’s County side) of the Thomas Johnson Bridge on December 3 and 4. Officials say the project will improve safety and ride conditions for motorists by re-establishing a smooth transition from the MD 4 asphalt roadway to the concrete and steel bridge structure.

All work will take place between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
A single lane closure may be necessary, and a flagging operation will be in place both nights to help guide motorists through the work zone.

Motorists will be alerted to the upcoming resurfacing work through the placement of variable message signs near both ends of the bridge on December 1.

See if you can get the MD State Highway Administration to turn the sholders from the bridge of Rt 4 into travel lanes on St Mary's side to help ease congestion if the want to do something useful.

If it were a 4 lane bridge, that would be fine.

That would be stupid the way people drive on route 4 leading up to that bridge.
