Kids Watch Police Shoot Family Dog....Waldorf...

(I did not see this posted elsewhere....)

Sounds like the dog on 231 from the summer...
Serving a warrent to someone who no longer lived at that address?

from NBC4 website
Quote:
A Waldorf, Md., family's dog was euthanized after a deputy shot the dog outside their house Thursday night. The family says two children were watching, including a 2-year-old who was a foot away from the dog when it was shot.

Deputies from the Charles County Sheriff's Office had arrived at the house on St. Peters Church Rd. around 7 p.m. to serve legal papers to a resident who no longer lived at that address.

The homeowner said deputies asked her to put her 2-year-old sheep dog, Dixie, inside the house while they sorted things out. The homeowner complied, but her 2-year-old niece pushed the door open a short time later. Dixie came running out, and the deputy shot the dog, according to an account from the homeowner's sister.

The family took the dog to the vet, but they said they had no choice but to put her down because they could not afford to pay for surgery to save Dixie's life.

The deputy opened fire because he felt threatened, according to Charles County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Diane Richardson. The sheriff's office released the following statement:

"When our officers arrived at the home, they asked the owner to secure the dog inside, which she did. The officers took extra care to conduct their police business outside the home. It is unfortunate that the accidental release of the dog, when a child opened the door, resulted in a situation where an officer felt his safety was threatened."
Don't these cowboys cops go thru any training when it comes to dogs?
Or are they just taught to shoot anything that threatenes their safety?
(reminder...most, if not all, have jackets under their shirts that are designed to stop a bullet....)

A sheep dog...

Wonder if this is the same cop that killed the dog on 231 in Hughsville?

idiot

threatened or not... that is BS..... he should have NEVER pulled his weapon out of the holster with the kids right there....

Once again a Charles County officer gets trigger finger....

Do they teach judgement and commonsense in that department AT ALL????

This is like the 5th case of bad judgement by that sheriffs department this year. ugh.

he could have killed the kid.

Cops are such Pu$$ies! How could you feel that threatened? If he didnt have a weapon on him then what? He would have had the time to realize the dog was not a threat. How many times has this happened now (same exact thing with being at the wrong house)?

The worst a sheep dog will do to you is nip your ankles.... The fricken police departments need to stop hiring people who are afraid of dogs and until officers realize that so much of it is body language and the dog's ability to sense fear - this will continue to happen over and over again.

I don't think they're afraid of dogs. I think they're power hungry twits who use their gun rather than their brain to show their manhood.

And, until they're made to suffer consequences for their inability to use their firearm in an appropriate manner, family pets will continue to be lost.
