Ballou High School Marching Band

Help Send the Ballou Marching Band to the Rose Bowl! - The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Not sure which forum to place this in but figured since DC is close to Southern MD this would work. Also if I did this wrong and it doesn't work, oops i am not that great with IT and tech stuff.

I was born in Washington DC lived a bit in SE and then moved to Oxon Hill and over the years have made it down to St.Mary's. I hear alot of people talk down on DC and other poverty stricken cities with high crime rates and uneducated people. Yes DC doesn't haven't have a great reputation but maybe if more people had opportunities like these children they might have inspiration to better there lives. No matter what you may think of low income people these children are doing the best they can to go somewhere in life and with help from others maybe Washington DC can become a city of hope and inspiration. The artical doesn't say much but the video clip says a bit more. If anyone hasn't heard of Ballou High School, I will even say it is bad and I am not scared of much but I don't think I would send my child there.

Thanks for your comments. I think this is an amazing opportunity for the Ballou Marching Band and we should all be very proud of these wonderful children and the opportunity that is being given to them. Maybe if people would stop saying such and such is a bad school, then the old reputations would be forgotten (or forgiven) and the new students would have a better chance of not being reminded over and over that they go to a bad school, when it fact it is not any longer (as in Great Mills High School, which is not a bad school but has the old reputation of being one). Now I do know that there are many "bad" schools out there or maybe they are just in bad neighborhoods, so I am not saying that Ballou is a good school. I do not know what it is like, but let's all give these children a chance and wish them well and hope they have the time of their lives.

Way to go Ballou High School Marching Band from a Great Mills High School Marching Band parent!!

You are correct, I should have said it is a rough school. Which it is. Thank you for comment and support for Ballou High School. I went to Great Mills and some say it is bad, but it is only bad if you allow your peers to persuade you into doing something wrong. I just was inspired how these children choose to not follow their peers and want to make something out of ther lives. I didn't see the original show on them but my mom says they are a great band.
