Question Questions about trees and farm land

I live on a tree lined road in Chaptico. It's a 1.5 miles to my house on this road. I have noticed several trees, all different kinds, shapes and sizes have a blue paint mark on them (done recently). They obviously have been marked for a purpose, just wondering if someone knows why. I've also seen these markings in certain places on route 234 in Charles County.
Also on Chaptico Rd, there is alot of farm land that have orange flags (not the kind used to mark property boundries) throughout, they look like cable markers, but can't be that because there is no cable in my area). Is the county perhaps marking how much farm land is left?
Does anyone know what any of this means? I'm not losing sleep over it, it's just "curious minds want to know".

Blue paint mark means "Property Line".

Page 22 (that's pdf page 22, hard copy is page 20) of the MD Guide to Hunting and Trapping states:
"Maryland law allows the use of blue paint stripes, as well as signs, to indicate private property boundaries. Vertical paint maks at least 2 inches in width and 8 inches in length must be centered at least 2 feet, but no more than 6 feet, from the ground or water surface. The paint must be oil-based and bright blue."

we use to mark fields with small flags that were to be treated with sewage sludge. leaves a pleasant smell for a few days.

I believe the blue mark means no trespassing. It is a better way of marking your property for no trespassing rather than nailing signs on the trees.

It's a property boundry marker just like huntr1 stated.

No, it is not a property marker, it is a no trespassing sign! This provision was enacted many years ago. As evidenced here, very few people are aware of it!

Um, dipwad, it IS a property line marker. Follow the information I posted. Go to the Maryland DNR website, download the Guide to Hunting and Trapping. Turn to page 20 (the 22nd page of the guide when you count the cover and whatnot) and you too can read EXACTLY WHAT I TRANSCRIBED. The blue paint marks the boundary of private property. You are not allowed on private property unless it is yours. The law recognizes that the blue marks are a cheaper alternative to nailing "Posted" signs all down your property line to mark it.
