| Ugh. And 15 mins before the accident, if you'd have scolded that girl for texting while driving, she'd have insisted that she doesn't *really* take her eyes off the road, that it's no different than holding a conversation while driving, or tuning the radio, or whatever else the text addicts came up with in that other thread. A damn shame. |

| This is a horrible story. My heart goes out to everyone involved. Highway Safety Committees like we have here in St. Mary's County, along with our police officers routinely talk to everyone that is willing to hear them about the danger of texting while driving. Some kids have the idea it will never happen to them, only to find out after it is too late. I am a member of our local highway safety committee and will mention this during our next meeting. I believe we need to find a better way to communicate to these kids. I know parents do what they can. I fear it comes to a point, where parents are toned out. Even the most experienced driver should never consider texting when driving. These kids have hardly any driving experience. Then they text while driving; along with their lack of experience behind the wheel can be a lethal combination. The pain their friends and parents goes through, physical and emotional isn't considered by these kids because they think they can text safer better than the other kids who had accidents. They don't get through their head there is no such thing as safe texting. Texting while driving is all unsafe. |
