Anyone remember Go Cups?

When I moved to Leonardtown in the early 80's, bars used to be able to sell beer in "Go Cups". You'd drive up to a drive-in window and buy beer for the road! They outlawed the practice not too long after, but being from the metro DC area of Maryland, I had never seen anything quite like that before.

When I left Louisiana in 2003, I knew of one liquor store that was still doing this. As long as you didn't stick your straw in the cup, it wasn't considered an open container. I don't know if they did beer, but they did things like hurricanes, fuzzy navels, and etc.

Monks Inn - I never even heard of drive in windows for drinks until I moved here. Monks had a little "church shaped" window for them.

Tequila Sunrise. Prettiest and best tasting drink you could get.

Go cups have been replaced by brown paper bags around 10 ounce cans or the bottle of your choice.

Last year, some relatives of mine I had never met came here from Southern California. All they could talk about was the number of drive-thru liquor stores down here. They saw one and had to turn back and take a picture. Then they saw another, then another, then another and soon it became a game between a couple of them to see who could spot the next one and how many they could find.

Living in SMC my whole life, I never realized they were such an oddity.
