Ok, everyone wants to throw statistics around. How about looking up the statistics of how many children are hurt and killed by that evil breed we call "PARENTS". If we really care about the welfare of the child, I say BAN them!!!

These killers have the reputation they do because they are aggressive by nature and instinct. They are used for fighting because it comes natural to them. In your infinite wisdom, did you ever wonder why people don't fight shepherds or beagles or labs or mastiffs??
I had a housemate that had an Alaskan Malamute. He took down a small deer!

He was not trained to do that, it was his instinct. What is crazy is that type of dog needed cold weather to be happy. I have seen a couple around here. Poor dogs with stupid owners. I actually think it is cruel and stupid for people keep animals that are not in their natural habitat. Your decision to keep a pet locked up in your house while you are at work or not allow to roam free is pretty cruel to the pet, but then the pet does not have free will like you do. Your decision to keep a pet is actually enslaving it. You can call it what you want, but you are making a selfish decision about animals for your own satisfactions.

We had a pit bull (that I saved from a family that fought the her) that bit ZERO (0) times....we have a Chihuahua that we got from a rescue and has bit/snapped at my son 2 times......
hey smarty pants, the OP said she lets hers have acess to the outside all the time, with no supervision......

as for your second point, if your pit had bitten your child do you think the damage would have been the same?
thats the real point in the pit argument. if a small or less agressive breed bites a person, you can generally pullthe dog off or defend yourself.
with the larger more agressive breeds, you have a much harder time stopping the attack once it begins

:eyeroll: with humans IS dog's "natural habitat" they have been bred that way since cavemen. They were always fully intended to live with people.

As for some of you guys, I would hate to be so encaged by the utter FEAR some dog will attack and kill me. It's ridiculous. ANy bad dog I ever met, and it hasn't been may, had a stupid owner or was previously abused. I dont encounter all of these killer pits int he street like some of you seem to believe exist. We always get into this argument here..and its the same..people who have never owned a pit proclaim them to be evil..anyone thats ever had one has begged to differ.

Though you guys are half right. My pit is extremely vicious..to every single crunchy leaf on my lawn. Bloodthirsty and cruel..crunches em right up in his cruel, cruel jaws. Then he looks at me..and in his eyes I see I am next. He licks my face everytime we cuddle and watch animal planet..but i know in my heart he's only tasting me..waiting until I let my guard down to crunch me up..like a crunchy fall leaf.

If you think it is ok for someone to carry around a machine gun in the open, then it is ok to walk around with a threatening looking dog. Dog's invoke fear in a lot of people. Some justified, some not. You are making a statement about yourself with your dog. You can, it is what we do. I have been bitten by loose dogs (German Shepherd, Doberman and a good old Wiener dog) that were loose. The Wiener dog was scary because I was a little kid just riding my bike. All three were not provoked and without warning. Lucky none of the bites were serious, but if I reacted differently, it could have been with the German Shepherd and the doberman.

The common common denominator here is YOU You should stay away from dogs

It really is easy. Shepherd. Shep, like sheep. Herd, like a herding dog. NOT shepard or sheperd.
