Biker Mob

Saturday morning, around 11:30ish, I’m traveling north on 4. Traffic is unusually slow for a Saturday morning. Then I find out why. There are about 50+ bikers clogging everything up. I get up to the 231 intersection and they are stopped on either side of 4 blocking opposing traffic coming out of 231 so their mob can continue through the intersection when the light turns red. They have no police escort. I come to the intersection and I have bikers cutting directly in front of me and directly behind me from both sides of the road. I had to slam my brakes on to avoid making bloody minced meat out of 2 of you pinheads. When I got up to Cox Rd the mob was turning left at that intersection; again with a couple of biker ‘marshals’ sitting in the intersection blocking traffic so they can continue through, running the red light. One of them (a female) actually had the gall to sit there blocking traffic while she took photos of the trail of bikes as they went through the intersection.

What this gang did was completely illegal and a complete disregard for others. If I were in the opposing traffic and you sat in front of me blocking my way when my light turned green, I’d be inclined to mow right through blasting my horn for you lawbreakers to get the h3ll out of MY way; just as you were doing. The road is there for everyone; not just you boneheads that think that just because you're in your little biker posse you can claim the highway.

We get a lot of threads on here about bikers complaining about 4-wheel drivers not paying enough attention to bikers. Don’t wonder why anymore. Because you pinheads think you own the damn road. You think you can do whatever the heck you want and expect everyone to still look out for YOU. I’m trying to figure out why you bikers think because you’re in a pack you have the right to clog all other traffic up so you can keep your mob together. Why do you think the law doesn’t apply to you? Now that it’s warmed up we’re getting more and more packs riding around cutting in and out of traffic, tailgating, and running red lights.

Don’t give me any more crap about not watching out for you. Don’t expect it when you have no desire to do your part in allowing me to safely look out for you.

I'm surprised no one has already given you crap about this post.

This is SOP for any large group or benefit ride, been happening for years and years, will continue. It's FAR better to hold some traffic at an intersection rather than allow a handful of cars in-between the riders. Far safer for everyone. Would you have liked driving your car surrounded by bikes? Makes most drivers nervous and we as bikers don't need a nervous driver in with dozens of bikes.

As far as no police, I wouldn't be at all surprised if there weren't one or more riding as citizens in that pack.

Large groups like this aren't usually a bunch of guys out for a ride. This was more likely a benefit ride for a good cause.

Sorry you felt so terribly inconvenienced for a few minutes.

Me too. I thought this would torque a few nerves pretty quickly.

If you're going to ignore the intent of my post then why bother? This wasn't an incontinence. And it wasn't for just a few minutes. It was a several mile stretch. It was dangerous.

If they had a police escort I would have been fine with it. It probably would have been more organized. They caused complete chaos in every intersection. Like I said, they cut in front of me without warning and pretty much took over the entire roadway. I don’t give one hoot about 'SOP'. They still have to obey the law. They didn’t in any way or fashion. I’ve lived in SoMD for about 7 years now and NEVER saw this happen before. I’ve seen bikers ride in large groups often, but never taken complete control of the road and blocking intersections.

The safest thing they could have done is obey traffic signals; IOW (as if I had to even say it) stop at red lights. Then catch up when they can. If they can’t then meet at their meeting grounds when they get there. I was already driving my car surrounded by bikes; they were everywhere; pulling in and out of the intersections. As I stated, I almost ran over one that pulled out in front of me. I had to hit my brakes, just as two pulled out just behind me. They had to weave sharply to avoid hitting me in the rear. If you don’t want a nervous driver, stop doing stupid stuff that makes drivers nervous. What is it with you biker people that have this attitude that the whole ‘respect each other’ thing is a one-way street?

I’m all for benefits, and I really appreciate what bikers do; especially for our vets. But if they want to get there alive they need to stop acting like morons and like they own the entire road when they’re in groups like this. I don’t need their blood on my conscience because they fail to recognize there are other vehicles out on the road.

You know, out of the myriad of things that annoy me and make me say cusswords, biker packs aren't one of them. Traffic in general doesn't harsh my buzz, even when some idiot tries to commit suicide in front of my vehicle. Bikers, to me, are like cyclists or Amish or something - you just get away from them and allow them to proceed. If they're being unsafe and end up splattered on the road, oh well - not my problem. The only thing I'm interested in is not being the one that splatters them. Aside from that, they take up no space in my brain.

Please don't let one bad experience ruin your opinion of all bikers. I'm not a biker but I do like to ride bicycles and jog through my neighborhood. Some cyclists and pedestrians are disrespectful to automobile drivers because they often have the right of way on the road and that behavior has created (in some drivers) an anger towards all of us so that they don't stop for us, throw cigarette butts at us, get their vehicles as close to us as possible, or once in my case - wave me across the road and then speed through it just as I get started out into the crosswalk - it's very frustrating.

I feel pretty confident that it's similar for motorcyclists. Don't perpetuate the cycle of anger, no one benenfits from it.

I would rather them block the intersection for a minute or two (for a benefit) than to have them speeding and weaving through traffic with thier obnoxiously loud exhaust to catch up to their group. It's only a minute or two of your life you have to wait...

Don't use the crosswalk. You are not a pedestrian if you're riding a bike. Follow the same set of rules as if you were in a car.

Right, but I meant using the crosswalk when I jog....and I didn't previously mention this part but also for when I walk the dogs.
