Surveying the Park Hall Elementary school zone?

Hmmmm, wonder why. Now, I could be wrong, but I suspect speed camera shenanigans . Right now, that school zone is not vary big, and it's speed limit is the same as the road it's on, 50mph. The southern sign 9NB 5) is only about 300 feeet south of the school entrance. the one north of the school, for the southbound lanes is about 500 feet past the school entrance.

Were I a suspicious man, I think they are investigating extending the school zone out to the state limit of 1/2 mile, and dropping the speed limit........not expecting any real info here, just sort of saving the date.

On the north side, 1/2 mile would get them almost to the bottom of hill coming down from Hattons Rest farm. On the south side, that same 1/2 mile would take them out to 1/10th of a mile north of Cooks.

I was hoping they were preparing to do a little rehab to the road surface. That area has about as much crack sealer as actual asphalt.

I have seen them down there, and wasnt sure it was school zone related, til this afternoon at lunch time, when they were focused on the northern sign itself. But you do have a point, that road is bad, but too bad in the school zone. the worst is the downhill from Hattons Rest. That biker that was killed? If the tar snakes were not a factor, I would be shocked. They can get your wheel going squirrely fast. Inexperience in handling that could put you in that ditch fast.

I really hope so. Having lived over there for almost a decade, I've seen people fly through there. Even saw one car crash into the back of a school bus, with its lights flashing. I've had cars and more flipped over in the front yard, had people slam on their brakes and almost crash into me....seen relatives and friends, who had turn signals on, rear ended, vehicles totaled.

You do realize cameras don't stop people from not paying attention, right? I don't see where having people who are paying attention slow down even more will help. And given that it's only a $40 fine with no reporting or recording, it's not about reducing crashes, it's about making money.

When did that school bus thing happen?

The first one where the bus flipped over was in 97. The second time, where the car crashed into the back of the bus was in 2000, I believe.

The grain truck was rear ended around 2003. The pickup around 2003 also.

I just want people to slow down through there. Its scary.... And if they know there are cameras, they will slow down.

Was the bus flipping over speed related? And slamming into the rear of a bus is attention related, not speed. My point is not accept any solution as the right one. People are not crashing because they are speeding. they are crashing becuase they are not driving right.
