I was having a friend over for dinner tonight and had a list a mile long of things I needed to get done before 6pm when he showed up. My day blew up and to top it off I got in my car and the P/S light was on and I was Armstrong. EFF!!!! So I took it down to Toyota to see if by some possible stroke of luck they might be able to squeeze me in and get me fixed up.

An hour later, I was back on the road and all was well.

Not only that, but it didn't cost me a thing because Toyota stands behind their vehicles and random minor boo boos get fixed for free.

This is good to know. I really like the Tundra $x$(TRD, Rock climber). I have heard from a couple car dealer freinds of my son and they say quality is not up to chevy or ford or dodge! And the real expert is a bmw dealer so he has no loyalty to usa makes. I like the idea of a nice service dept.

If Toyota isn't about quality ... then who is? The knock on Toyota is that their designs are boring, behind the times. Reliable as all get out, but don't have all they latest tech gadgets.

Whats a P/S light look like? I ask because I haven't seen that term before.

EDIT: Nevermind, didnt know that they had a separate light for the power steering system. Now I see they do.


Ah, got it. Seems the RAV4 doenst drive the power steering pump by use of a belt, but uses an electric motor to drive the pump. Motor kicks off, and you are on manual steering, which means steering requires rather more effort, hence the term "armstrong".

I understood that to stand for "power steering" and the Toyota mechanic confirmed that I was correct.

Same place told my wife that she needed the power steering fluid flushed and replaced.

Ah, looks like what can happen is that the pump doesn't turn off when the car does, and so it draws from the battery, draining it.
