Next year I hear they are going to start on Columbus day and extend it through Easter - because it seems to some of us that window has gotten bigger each year.
It is awesome that they recommend "departing your residence at least 30-45 minutes early" in the morning.

I even had a former neighbor who used to ride my arse and complain about me and other neighborhood "slow" (doing the speed limit) drivers. I base my "opinion" on my real life experience. I used to commute to DC for years. I learned quick, it's better to arrive alive than drive aggressively. You may want to consider that the next time you are in hurry to cover 5 freaking miles.

Another thing to consider: It is called the speed LIMIT, not the speed suggestion. That means it's perfectly legal to drive under the speed limit. Also, weather, line of sight, road conditions and other factors contribute as to whether or not you should even be doing the limit.

I'm not sure if that was directed towards me, but I drive to DC 2-6 days a week and really have zero problems with traffic unless I'm down here between Gate 2 and Wildwood...

and no it's not perfectly legal to drive under the limit.....it's called impedeing the flow of traffic and I know several people, including roommates who light people up for that and give them tickets.

Four weeks straight! From the email: "Please allow extra time for access to the installation by departing your residence at least 30-45 minutes early."

As soon as I get to the traffic I'm starting my work day...

How many parents can actually leave home 30 - 45 minutes early when they have kids to get on the bus or to day care that may not be open yet, etc.

That's actually a very great point that I would have never thought of because I don't have kids.... You are absolutley right too, I was annoyed they thought I was going to get up an hour earlier just to sit in traffic, I can't imagine having to coordinate daycare/school/etc.

Mine is old enough to get herself out on the bus, so I no longer have that issue. I also leave by 530, so traffic isn't much of an issue for me either. But, 4 weeks of these "arrangements" would create a hardship for many parents/families.

Want to know how fast that policy would change?

Move the commanding officer of NAVARI off base and close the gold coast as well. When the brass has to sit in the traffic they would be requesting a more appropriate cure then telling people to leave up to 45 minutes early.

Talk about violations of the clean air act, 30 to 45 minutes extra for vehicles to idle on the roads - CALL THE EPA

:)

Won't be a problem next year, half the contractors will be gone
