Congress and the POTUS can't afford to let the sequestration happen on the 3rd. If it does by some looney-toon chance... it won't be just DC in trouble... it will be nation-wide trouble.

But actually for us average citizens we are in trouble regardless. We talk about the debt and the spending/revenues... but what is actually putting the spending on the dizzy financial roller-coaster?

No you weren't ...or you wouldn't have asked me if the "skipper told me" that. Amirite?

The question still remains....

If by some strange act of fate...we do go over the fiscal cliff.... where will you cut the money from your budget to live without about $40.00 a week [for the person making $60,000.00 per year].

Look at what you spend your money on every week. Is there something you can cut back on?

I heard a lot of people say they won't go out to dinner so much.... so the waitress, waiters, cooks, cashiers, wholesale food distributers, packagers, farmers.... they will all suffer in the long run....

If the Fed doesn't renew the contractors.... then those people will be leaving the Fed to go into the civilian work force.... will that affect your job?

Will the private sector employers [i.e. those famous small business owners] have to continue to pay inflated unemployment insurance contributions because all the gov contractors are now going on unemployment?

Will the wages we earn go down again because qualified people will pour into the workforce willing to take a lower wage to barely make the mortgage and food for the table rather than try to survive on unemployment?

It really won't matter who pushed us over the cliff if we do infact go over. We will need to be ready.... and hey... if you do find an extra $40 in your budget, and we don't go over the cliff.... couldn't you invest that $40 into an account that earns a little interest so it grows? So if someone threatens you again with a ride over an imaginary cliff... you'll have a little something to land on....

Where will you cut your budget to make it if we go over the fiscal cliff?

I would have to start buying the regular edition of video games instead of the limited edition with all of the cool extras.

Is this going to lead to a new version of the "I've fallen and can't get back up" jokes?

I, personally, have long since made allowances for something like this. I'm covered.

Sometimes you (meaning you in general) think you've planned, but sometimes the #### hits the fan at once and from many directions. It's pretty hard to plan for everything

I guess you do the best you can, if you can. Some people have mentioned here that due to prior circumstances, they are already living paycheck to paycheck. It obviously makes it more difficult.

And unfortunately, all of this does trickle down

I refinanced the house last month and dropped the monthly payment by $400.
