I've rented steam cleaners in the past and they've done well but you have to know when it is just dirty or when it is just done and needs replaced.

Hopefully you are not one of those people who expect a steam cleaner to breathe renewed life in your dead carpet. I helped my sister once and seriously, the only thing that was going to help her carpet was a match.

Nah... The carpet overall isn't too bad... I spilled a cup of coffee and there is a noticeable circle from where I cleaned it... I figured I was probably due for a nice steam clean and this coffee circle has motivated me.

Hey, Hank! I own a Bissell steam cleaner, and it works great. I have never rented one.

It would be perfect for you then.

You know, my neighbor cleans office buildings for a living and he swears that you should never use anything other than water to clean your carpets. He says the use of soap products attract more dirt in the long run. I've always wanted a 2nd opinion on that.

I heard that as well... I heard with the soap products a problem area such as the coffee circle tends to come back pretty quick...

I have a Bissell ProHeat and I pretty much hate it.

I don't like the bladder inside the dirty water bin set up. I have to refill mine several times to do one room in my house. I prefer the kind that have individual water areas - one for clean water and the other for dirty water.

I had an old steam cleaner that connected to my faucet. Gawd I loved that machine and was very sad when it broke and I couldn't find one like it or any replacement parts.

When you rent you get a lot of the insects, smells, and dirt from those who rented before you. For about $40 more you could buy from Amazon.
