Is the lack of cab companies in St.Mary's and Clavert due the county commission not granting licenses or is it just that few individuals see the market for said service?
I miss the drive up window at Duke's Bar.

It's dangerous being a Cab Driver I suppose. That might be a reason there are so few Cabs here in Calvert.

Why would it be the responsibility of the municipality to make sure you get home safe. You chose to drink, you chose to drive yourself to the bar to drink, why should it be someone elses responsibility to get you home. If that was the case, then all the bar owners should be paying for cabs, taxi's and buses. Self responsibility... why are people so lacking this.

If expecting a township to support alternative means of transportation (paid by the consumer) in order to help facilitate responsible decision making is not taking personal responsibility than you have a backwoods way of thinking friend.

By your wording clearly you're confused (shocker) and seem to think the demand for a cab company in some way is a demand for free transportation paid for by the city? This is obviously not the case. Simple supply and demand more than likely being stifled by the powers that be in order to prevent growth. Reading comprehension...why are people so lacking this.

IF they even show up at all. I would not recommend them at all.

IMHO there are so few cabs in Calvert because there is so little need. Most people here have transportation. Hubby and I have often talked about starting a cab company.... the process is expensive... providing the service is expensive... and at this time there just isn't the market for a full time cab service.

We were both drivers for Beach Taxi in Virginia Beach. It's not so dangerous as you might think but it is expensive. Before leaving a full time job to become a cab driver you have to consider the cost of the vehicle, fuel, dispatch, and insurance.

Once the market gets better for this valuable service... I for one would love to go back to driving.

I'm curious why you think a government should provide a fleet of taxis/buses to transport drunks who got that way of their own free will? This is where private enterprise and personal responsibility come in. The government has enough programs to waste our money on as it is.

Drunks

When ever we go out dringing we always make sure we have a DD and that they do not consume any alcohol. When we are just about ready to leave the bar we have the DD go out to the parking lot to see if any cops are around. If not then the DD (designated Drunk) will get in their car and drive erraticly to flush the cops out. That way the the cops are busy with the person who hasn't been drinking and woun't bother us drunks wen we leave!!!!
