She became pregnant and sided with her family when her mom pressed charges for statutory rape. I do get how you feel because I saw a man in the grocery store that I went to high school with. Not long after we graduated he was caught raping a girl that was 10. He claimed she was a willing participant and only ended up serving one year. He was in line behind me in the grocery store and made a comment about how pretty my daughter was. I kirked out on him and gave him 3 seconds to get out of my sight before I maced him. Cashier just smiled and said she would of swore he grabbed me by the boob LOL
Some states list them by levels according to how likely it is that they will reoffend, Level I being not likely. I had one of them in my neighborhood where I used to live. I was never able to find out what exactly happened with him, but I suspect it wasn't a cut and dry case. Frankly, I think in some areas these laws need an overhaul. I think there are people out walking around that should be in jail, and I think there are people labeled as sex offenders for life who probably shouldn't be

Not that I recall. The name doesn't sound familiar at all.

Was he discussed in the thread about passing out Halloween candy?

The problem is as others alluded to - you never know where these creeps are...

I am w/ Socki on this - I just don't know. Thing is, he likely didn't do his sexoffending at work. Child molesters are sneaky pigs, they'll get at kids any way they can - even if you ARE watching.

Don't just keep an eye on them - tell them SPECIFICALLY and OFTEN what is not ok and what to do if anything happens. And determine to ALWAYS believe and take action if your child comes to you w/ anything.

These creeps are "everywhere." That message really hit home to me while having a conversation with a friend of my sister's over dinner. She's a federal prosecutor who deals with these types of crimes.

it has hit home w/ me too - but in our case he was right under our noses and nobody knew - a register couldn't have helped in that situation. It was the precious children whose parents had taken the time to teach and were committed to believing their kids that stopped him.

I can't imagine having to deal w/ these "people" as a day in/day out job

It is like Misfit said early in this thread; it is the one's you don't know about. I am a firm believer in that people should be given second chances (and I am not talking about third, fourth, etc.) Yes, it is scary, if you have children with you, and you go into a place with a known sex offender. Parents protect their children, so don't take them there, but if you are with them, what could happen. I know we want to be all knowing, and in control of ourselves, and our family's safety, so we have to make our own judgement calls. We should also think about that maybe the sex offender hates him/herself, and wishes they weren't that way. I have to think that a sex offender would rather not be one; what a nightmare to live with because it goes so against nature. I have not had to deal with sex offense in my life, but, I think about how very tragic it must be, and I am sorry for anyone that has had to deal with it. Very sad situation all around. JMO

Some people on the books aren't dangerous, and they should be given a chance. As for the others, that mentality and psychology is ingrained and in their blood and they shouldn't be given the chance and they shouldn't be walking the street

Yeah, I'm wondering in what world that happened. Most states have some kind of "common sense" stuff where if you are only a couple years apart then it's OK, even if one is over the age of consent and the other is under. So 19 and 17 would be legal as far as I've ever heard. But who knows maybe there's a state out there that says otherwise.

I believe IHOP or Bob Evans in Lexington Park has a sex offender working in the kitchen. Sorry I can't remember which one. I remember reading it when I was checking the sex offender list when I was planning to move 3 years ago.
