Do you mean the drill hall at the military school. The last tiem I was there, which was eons ago, the floor was rough and splintery and the rental skates were lousy.....

Back in the day, when there was a speed skate team, and the go-go's, all us girls were dressed alike...Big Hair( Texas style) neon glow in the dark wheels.. WOOOHOOO!! I am having a freaky flash back.....

Anyone remember doing THE BIRD ???????

Skate Station

Yes another Skate Station would be wonderful, I grew up there myself, I think I was in the 9th grade when it closed and I didn't know what to do. Luckily I played sports year round in School, so that kept me out of trouble. But things like this are the answer to solving a lot of problems. I just think that until this County has a change of leadership (uppity ups) we will continue to go in cirlces. Everyone that is in charge of how this country lives hails from Valley Lee, Leonardtown, or good ole 7th District, these are the poeple that are scared to go through the park at night time with their windows rolled down. St. Marys County is ever changing, it is much different from when I was younger, heck I remember 235 only being 4 lanes, I know some of you can remember when it was only 2. We need to wake up and see that the answer to our future lies in our children. We need to do all that we can to ensure that they are well taken care of. This includes making sure they have things to do.

A skating rink should be a private endeavor and not somethnig the county government should have a hand in. As to nothing for kids to do I think it is the parents that need to step up on this. The county has numerous parks with various facilities to use, check the recreation and park site here http://www.co.saint-marys.md.us/recr...ties/index.asp . There are the state parks too. Beyond that if you think something is lacking take the initiative to bring it in yourself and leave the county government out of it.

Hey I think I peed someone off on here by speaking my mind. Well I am expressing my own opinions here, much like everyone else. I have lived in this county my entire life, and I just feel that those in charge SUCK! Period, it is all about smiling to everyone, then getting things done for your buddy, or cousin probably. I mean I have a pretty big family and am related to some really important people, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with the fact that the overlook certain individuals. You say check out parks and rec, well there is another monkey bunch. I mean take the football program, I did everything in my power to help out with that, yet I never had my phone calls returned, and when I would show up to a place where a meeting was to be held, something would have changed, a date, or a time, and no one ever notified anyone, and this was all just trying to be a coach.

Now I agree it should be a personal endeavor, however why did the Skate Station have to close, Art couldn't keep the trash out of there, because of NO SUPPORT FROM THE COUNTY (POLICE ETC...)!!!! So all of the 'Good ole Boy' Politicians in St. Mary's County can kiss my a$$, I know where my child is, and that he will be taken care of, as for some people out there, I feel for them!!!!

I don’t think you p!ssed anyone off by stating your opinion. And I am sorry to hear that you have never had a chance to live anywhere else, but what does that have to do with anything I stated? The link I provided for the recreation and parks was just one that shows what parks are available in the county for people to take advantage of.

There are numerous programs available in the county and I would suspect that some run a lot better than others, the Pigskin Football has been one that has had problems forever and unless you want to jump right in and take it over from Don Kemp I suspect it will keep running as it has been. But that isn’t the only thing available as there are baseball leagues, softball leagues, wrestling, lacrosse, and soccer activities that you can get your kids into.

As to the skate station issue, should there be police stationed at a private endeavor full time? I don’t think so, unless that activity is going to pay a fee for that extra service. Did the police show up when the law was being broken? I bet they did.

Maybe if you decided to bring a new skate station to the county you could also have coffee and doughnuts available and that would about guarantee that you would maintain a police presence at your facility.

You keep harping that it is the county’s fault that kids keep getting into trouble when in fact it is the parents of the kids that are at fault. The county provides plenty, in my mind, a heck of a lot more then when I was growing up here, now that is the real “truth”.

Thank you!!! When parents start taking responsibility for their children- this world will be a better place.

Note: A few days ago, a woman in Northern MD was on the news complaining how "bad" the elementary school teachers were, because her son didn't know how to read. I would have really liked to smack her in the head.

Essex South - Is that the one down by Gate 3, not Cedar Cove, but one of the smaller ones.

Bay Ridge

Westbury

If anyone knows about these places please give me some feedback. If we are going to spend in the upper 200's on a house, I want to make sure it is a in a good area.
