Sherriff Deputy's Should Set An Example

This morning I watched as a Deputy in the County Vehicle drove past while talking on a cell phone. How are we supposed to teach our kids about safe driving habits when the St. Mary's County Sherriff's Dept sets poor examples? With the all the news about kids and fatal accidents lately you would think they would at least not do this while in the county car.

I think you will need to lower your expectations as I did long time ago when I notice cops not setting examples anymore. When I say long time ago, I mean at least 25 years ago. Where does the law say that the cops are to set examples?

Okay so there is no law. But how effective is it to tell kids or the public one thing and then, while in uniform do the opposite? Doesn't it diminish the respect people have for sherriff's department as a whole? Don't we wind up painting all with the same brush?

I am not saying that cops are not human and we all make mistakes, etc. However, when one is respresenting the government or even your own company shouldn't you put the best face forward?

Why would you all want cops to set an examples for your own children when it is your responsibility to set the examples.

okay I feel your pain. I know what you are saying about image when a person represent the company or the government. I don't have the perfect answer to why can't EVERYONE do that?

The example that the state cops in this county set is:

If you hit a person and you are drunk............RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN AND HIDE.

Stang - I guess because I am not with my kids 24/7. When you have teenagers and they question everything already and you have to explain why they can't when so and so can too often with their peers. I would hope I wouldn't have to do that with law enforcement officials.

Searide - I don't know why everyone can't. I just refuse to lower my expectations. I don't do it for my kids and I won't do it for others. I know that often others do reach them but I sure do try to and hope my kids do too.

I don't think I've passed, or been passed by a police officer who was NOT on the phone! I don't have a problem with it... They have a tough job! I'm just glad they have someone to talk to!

It's not against the law at this time, so what example should the officer set?
