We just need to make it something for everybody. How about an outlet mall?! Sick of shopping at crowded Walmart. How about go-kart and miniamore golf? C'mon. It's time to get in with the rest of the real world.
Did five years of college do you good? Guess not, if you came back here looking for a job!

There is one driving economic factor for St. Mary's: Patuxent River NAS.

Not tourism, not Outlet Malls, not fine dining, not the ubiquitous waterfront. The Base is the lifeblood of this County.

Can't find a job using your degree, "getme"? Go apply at St. Mary's College. I hear that a basket weaving instructor is needed badly. Certainly your parents wants you to move out! Again!

With the degree I am seeking I plan on hunting for a job in D.C. Nothing around here for me in my field of study.

I wouldn't expect you to. Unless you had an engineering degree, or something in avionics. No one said "Go to college and come back!" after all. Getmeoutofhere expects the world right off the bat; I think you do too, Mr. Former-SFW Guy.

Yea I guess I sorta do. I'm just waiting for the world to bend over backwards so I can get to the top before everyone else.

I know that is meant as a joke. But most of your generation really feels that way. That is what is so sad. I say "Prove that you know something, or show that you want to learn!" Then you might earn and learn something before you are 30.

Technology Corridor

I am interested in the plans for this. Are there any? Is there even a conception on how 235 will become this massive technology corridor? I can see it down near the base with Exploration I & II, but 235 from Hollywood on down? And one thing about the base. I lived in DC for years, still work there, I simply enjoy my quite waterfront house. But, with all these "professionals" that have moved down here, I would think there is a market for upscale retail, restaurants and shops. I know a lot of folks down here that travel to Annapolis Mall because A) The shopping they prefer cannot be found in St. Mary's and B) St. Charles is ghetto. Even as a kid growing up when they changed Wildewood from a mall to a strip mall, they use the excuse "there is no demand". I say balony. I think a mall, about the size of Annapolis would do well. I don't think the BOCC and developers give us consumers enough credit.

There are upscale restaurants. Check out Leonardtown (Cafe des Artistes is probably one of the best places to eat around,) and Solomons.

The closest thing you will get to a concept plan (conception?) for Route 235 (I think that is what you were asking for?) are the county's zoning maps. There is not a plan which makes all of the buildings look the same, or has Route 235 looking like a college campus, or anything like that. Obviously, if 1 person owned all of the land, and it has the same zoning, that might be possible.

I agree with you about the malls. However, I doubt that Wildewood would be more attractive to merchants or shoppers, as an enclosed mall. Super Walmart is about as close as we'll get to an enclosed mall in St. Mary's County. I think developers are the ones responsible for not having an enclosed mall here. Commissioners don't invest the money. It's really just their math and our demographics that have kept us from having an enclosed mall. Now that shopping has evolved into freestanding big box stores, Targets, and Internet shopping, I don't know that we need an enclosed mall. 10 years ago, I would have said yes.

For every yuppie, there is a smib. I don't think "upscale retail" would do all that well in St Mary's.

Just a little note to you hun. First off, I make loads of cash at the Nuclear Power Plant and with a dual degree I might add. So next time you suggest basket weaving, tell your mama!
