I had no power most of yesterday. The temperature got down to about 50 degress in the house. I stayed in blankets most of the day. The dogs were also under the blankets!!! My electric came back on about 3:30 yesterday.

Our power was out in Lusby until about midnight. They had all but 500 houses repaired by 8 p.m. last night (at least that is what SMECO said when I called). They could have had the power back on at my house earlier but they refused to bring everyone back on line at the same time, fear of overloading the system. So my house was very cold and without water for ages. They said a major underwater line (under the Pax river) failed, and they were diverting power from other lines to southern Calvert to get everyone back up. I don't have warm fuzzies for SMECO right now, being one of the last to get power. The lines were fine, because we would get power occasionally during the day - for a minute or two- then it would shut off again. They were just taking their time bringing up the grid. Nothing like living 6 miles from a nuke plant, and having my power brought to me by failing underwater lines from across the river.

Just curious, did our local radio stations have any updates or anything at all during the outage? The several times I tuned in, it was just music and hourly national news.

I flipped through the 3 local stations over the course of 2 hours and never once heard an update when their local news is supposed to come on. I'm sure we'll hear about it tomorrow!

WTOP mentioned it around 4 p.m. for the first time that I heard. Said most residents would be restored by 5 p.m and that there were warming centers set up (but never mentioned where they were). I don't know how you're supposed to get information in SoMD when you don't have power and only a battery operated radio. Radio is useless down here.

Sucks, doesn't it. Unfortunately, all the power generated at Calvert Cliffs goes up the road.
