Isn't the lighthouse supposed to be open this weekend? I seem to remember that it is usually the first Saturday in November.

Mark your calendars for the Point Lookout Lighthouse Annual Open House 2005, to be held on the first weekend of November. Hours are scheduled to be 10 am to 4 pm, on Saturday November 5th and Sunday November 6th. Please be careful when touring the lighthouse; parents should watch their children carefully as there are several off limit areas that can be very dangerous. At last year’s event, a child entered an attic area and lost his footing, leaving a large hole in the ceiling! Luckily, the unknown child was not injured but could have easily fallen thru the ceiling to the next floor.

Thanks Buddy! I might have to make a trek down. I have gone once before, probably about 8 years ago.

Hopefully the Navy turns it over to the state like they said they were going to year after year. The outside looks great compared to yesteryear but the inside is horrible. That house will look beautiful when they finally get everything done. When I worked as a naturalist/historian at PLO my boss was thinking about ideas of what to do with it after it is turned over to the state. A living museum, the new visitor center, even letting people rent it out for 30 bucks per person per night came up. Should be interesting to see what comes of the 165 year old building.
