go to www.donhr.navy.mil for gov't jobs, click on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs and post your resume. Also http://hro.navair.navy.mil/staffing/announce/pax.htm is for some jobs at Pax River. Hampton Road area is constantly hiring. www.usajobs.com is a good site also, they include coast guard, DOL, Commerce, Homeland, etc. GOOD LUCK!

ALL of the job fairs I have ever been to are for either NSA, or NOVA.
What happened with Wyle? Nothing in your line of work? I know people that have left here (military types) to join contracting firms, that interviewed and wanted to hire my son (except he didn't want to switch from one job to another at the same salary). If you want to send me your resume PM me and I can take it to my boss and a few others I know.

Without a degree, forget it unless you want to work for the NMCI through EDS or one of the sub-contractors, for low pay. My advice, take it or leave it, would be to finish your degree THEN look for a job around Pax. You are within a year of finishing. Your security clearance is fine, but anyone with a clean background can get one. Not everyone has a BS or BA, which is another piece of the puzzle to getting where you want to be. It is mighty tough to get a good tech job around Pax without a degree. Without one, you have to know someone........that's the game, like it or not.

I'm getting ready to retire and after attending a couple of pre-retirement seminars, we're told that most companies around Pax will substitute military experience(20+ yrs) for a degree especially if the job is technical in nature. Right now, gov't jobs are not that many, but if you can get a contracting job that serves the military, then you've got your foot at the door already. A degree in engineering would probably get you at least an internship, then a job.

A TS/SCI with lifestyle polygraph is very difficult to get. Companies really don't want to invest money in people who arent guranteed to get it... and it used to mean instant job, whether or not you have the skills to do it or not... they would train you for the job, just beause of the clearance.

Almost every Federal contracting and finance position requires the degree, and there are some other specialties that also require it, but I'm not sure what they are (I'd imagine engineering, medical, scientific-types). More than likely, the only jobs being advertised (that you see) are of a technical nature requiring the piece of paper. And unfortunately, if it's one that the law requires the degree, you're kinda SOL, even with the clearance.

Right, you currently have a job, but now you're looking for (I presume) a better job, so it would be safe to assume that with a better job comes higher requirements. Remember that you aren't the only person applying for the jobs. Say it's down to you (with your security clearances) and someone else (with a degree). If I were an employer, I'd hire the person with the degree, because they can always obtain the security clearances. You cannot just turn around and get a degree, it takes time. JMO.

Better job? nope
I'd take a job of lesser skill...
My main reason for getting a new job is I currently drive 72 miles each way to work... it's killing me

What is your GS series? It can help finding a job that you might qualify for.

join the freakin' club....TWO AND A HALF HOURS to get home from DC tonight on the 909 (and i only went as far as CH) silly little bus driver decided on a whim (I guess) to take the SCENIC route all the way through DC, Anacostia, out to Branch through suitland....and we sat behind a dang metro bus for over 30 minutes because he didn't want to get into the LEFT LANE
the money's good where i am, but the commute KILLS me. adds an extra 15 hours per week minimum to my work week. is it REALLY worth it???
rottncop says YES....he SO wants to be a stay at home daddy/farmer/horsey person NOT
