Seems near impossible to get an interview without knowing someone (gov't jobs)

I have been applying all around the SOMD area and it seems near impossible to me to get a call back about a job unless you know someone... I have a GREAT resume with security clearances (more than you will ever need at pax river, or the surrounding area) and about 90 college credits (Yes, I am still in college). I have applied to several jobs, including ones that do not require a college degree (help desk, network admin, etc) and I cannot get a call back!
Has anyone else experienced this type of problem when seeking a job in the SOMD area? If so, how did you go about getting around it, assuming you finally got a job... I am desperately trying to get out of the northern VA area to cut my commute down!

(Oh btw if anyone is a recruiter, I can send you my resume )

my background is technical (computers) if that makes a difference

I know that Lockheed Martin are hiring Contractors down here in Dahlgren, Va. I think they're goal is to replace all of us military types.

Why wait for them to call you back? If you want it bad enough, be persistent!

I think (ya'll please correct me if I'm wrong) that for an actual government job you have to have a BS at least.

I currently have a gov't job, with no BS.

Ok, I'm wrong then. I've just never seen an ad that didn't require one.

Wyle is hiring, I sit near my nice boss (who hired me) and you're right it takes forever to get hired if you don't know someone. Not sure what kind of positions we have but it's on our website.

In my opinion, if you're looking for government, good luck. Also, PAX is known for hiring people who have degrees.

Well, are there ever any job fairs down here?
I know wyle had one awhile back, but that proved to be no good....
ALL of the job fairs I have ever been to are for either NSA, or NOVA.
