Contact SMECO and tell them. Try to make some payment even if it's a small one. This will show good faith on your part and I'm sure they will work with you. Best of luck.

We all struggle with money during the holidaze, but we have to pay our bills first.

Don't over-extend yourself just for Christmas. I'm guessing a warm bath would be much more enjoyable than a cold, dark shower.

In all seriousness, I recommend that you don't go overboard on Christmas and let the kids know you are strapped this year. If it comes down to it, they'd rather have heat, running water and lights rather than sitting in the dark and cold looking at new stuff. Make it a "life lesson" for the kids and you will probably find they will grow up with a better appreciation for budgeting and realizing that there a lean times in life. I remember a couple 'lean' Christmas seasons and though there weren't many presents under the tree, Mom managed to make Christmas still feel like Christmas in lots of little ways.

Don't struggle with Christmas.. i won't be upset if I don't get a gift from you.. and neither will (most of) anyone else.

99.9999% of Americans are not expecting anything from you.

They can and will shut your power down for non payment. That is unless you have small ones at home. They still can but won't.
