They are not metal detectors but book security used at most stores.

Good point, where was the guard when all of this was happening. Certainly he is not paid to escort little boys accompanied by their mom into the children's section. Why didn't the library worker call the guard. Sounds like delegating issues. However, I really like that library from what I have seen the times I have been there. Beats any DC Public Library (with the exception of the MLK Library downtown in Gallery Place). But homeless people hang out there I guess that is the same as the offspring of drug addicts hanging out to torment others at the LP Library.

It's amazing I have seen quite a few posts about Lexington Park, Great Mills Rd etc. Is this a bad place to live? I really didn't think so when I came here, like I said compared to DC but really is it a bad place? TIA

I wouldn't live there.

Compared to which part of D.C.?

D.C. Is a big city with good and bad parts - Lexington Park is much smaller and much less of a mixed bag. Mostly crappy. However, If someone stuck a gun to my head and said I had to live in either Lexington Park or Southeast D.C., I'd probably pick Lexington Park.

Well I guess I don't see where I live as crappy but I haven't exactly seen too many fancy neighborhoods at all. I mean is there a Georgetown or Capital Hill or Hillcrest Heights in Southern Maryland. To me Lexington Park just looks like a smaller Waldorf. In comparison to the inner cities of DC I think it is an alright place to live. I certainly am enjoying myself. It's good to hear the opinions because I did not know GM Rd was famous for streetwalkers and that a crackhouse was across the street from the library. To be honest I kind of like knowing that the city is not perfect because I would be uncomfortable in a place like Georgetown, Woodley Park, Connecticut Ave, etc. Lexington Park, DC is okay.

Well, I was on Great Mills Rd in the evening recently, stopped at the McD's next to the Big Lots to get my 11-yr old daughter something to eat (drive-thru), and she said to me, "This place is kind of skanky." Understatement! Lots of "interesting" people hanging out in the parking lot, loud and obnoxious. I would not have gotten out of the car there. Heard the punks working inside saying MF over and over, which was lovely. I can't say there is a particular road that is as nasty in Waldorf as GM Rd is, but I could be wrong. The California area is much nicer, and I feel much safer up that way.

The LP library itself is beautiful, but again, I probably wouldn't feel safe walking from the parking lot into the building at night by myself. I'm lucky that Charlotte Hall is our closest library, but L'town is very nice too.

If possible, you guys should check out St. Mary's college library. I believe its the largest in the county and open to the public.

I didn't know they had a public library there... where is it? I drive through the campus every day.
