Also, have you ever been to a truck stop? How about delivery trucks? Refridgerated trucks? Or does it just apply to personal vehicles?

We'd have to read the law. Maybe Counselor King will chime in and post it.

I'd like to think this is for the nimrods who pull into a 7-11 and run in with the car running, not you & I who start our cars in our own driveways to warm up. I doubt that any police officer would write a ticket for a car warming up in the owners private driveway.

Now here's food for thought..... you live in an apt. complex vs. a private residence. Parking is a lot outside the apts. Do you start the car 10 min. before you leave and hope Joe Thug doesn't break a window and drive off?? Do you bash the Police if they write you up?? Hmmmmmmmmm........

I have to think it must be another law pushed through by insurance companies to save them money rather than to protect the public. If it's true.

Mikeinsmd,

I have to agree with you about the apt. complex and the ones that leave it running while they run into a store or something because I could see that being a fine and all and more of a chance for a auto therft; just like you said it is more open than it would be in your own private driveway. And you do have a good point there about that, and I agree. What I don't agree with is if they fine you for doing that in your own private driveway.

What are ya disagreeing with?? I didn't say they would or that I thought they should. In fact, I said they probably wouldn't.

I wasn't disagreeing with you on anything, just saying I disagree if the law applied to us in private homes warming our cars up. I agreed with you on everything.

Since Ken is OBVIOUSLY on coffee break,

I dug up my old law journals.... Looks like it doesn't clarify or exclude private driveways.

Article - Transportation § 21-1101.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, a person driving or otherwise in charge of a motor vehicle may not leave it unattended until the engine is stopped, the ignition locked, the key removed, and the brake effectively set.

(b) A person driving or otherwise in charge of a motor vehicle may not leave the motor vehicle unattended until, if the vehicle is on a grade, the front wheels are turned to the curb or side of the highway.

(c) When a cat or dog is left in the unattended vehicle of an on-duty law enforcement officer or an animal control officer, the provisions of subsection (a) of this section do not apply to the law enforcement officer or the animal control officer.

I agree, it doesn't specify much at all.

........
I remember last year on one of the local news channel they were talking about this law and they showed cops going from house to house just writing tickets one morning in a pretty nice neighborhood. so yes they do do it if it's in your driveway.

And look at "B".... if you park on a hill, you HAVE to turn your wheels.... Great practice but I never knew it was law....
