Marlow Heights 60s and 70s is One Year Old

Our web site went on-line one year ago today, and has exceeded anyone’s expectations. When I put the site on-line last January 1st, it was a desire to preserve a piece of my growing up in Marlow Heights and vicinity. I italicized that because I really want to stress that this web site is not just about anything within the “proper” boundaries of Marlow Heights. It’s Hillcrest Heights, Temple Hills, Silver Hill, Oxon Hill, and Suitland, just to name a few. Really, if you grew up in the DC area in the 60s and 70s, this site touches a lot of common ground. Anyway, I never thought that so many people would relate to growing up in Marlow Heights and beyond of the 60s and 70s. But many, many people have, I’ve been able to add a lot of content and history to the site, and myself and many others have been put back in touch with many old friends and classmates. That in itself has made the effort and expense worth it. And by the way, no, I don’t make any money off of this site.

A couple of months ago, I wrote a letter to the Washingtonian magazine. A reporter from the Washington Examiner read that, checked out the site, and decided to write an article about it. That really put us on the map, so to speak. But that’s not so surprising. Since the site went on-line, we’ve had a total of 22,810 unique visits. That’s not a huge figure compared to “national” sites, but pretty darn good for a web site about Marlow Heights. J

As of late, I’ve updated the site. Here are the latest additions:

The, “Whatever Happened To…?”, pages have had quite a few additions. Please check it out and let me know if you have any updated information about anyone mentioned:

http://marlowheights60sand70s.com/ht...ed_to____.html

I updated the, “About Me”, page, to include pictures of my family:

http://marlowheights60sand70s.com/html/about_me.html

And now a request. Actually, this is a request that came via a few emails. People have asked that I put up a, “Now & Then”, page, showing pictures of what we looked like back then, and now. Actually, we’ve had that for quite a while:

http://marlowheights60sand70s.com/ht...is_is_now.html

but since I first put that page up, I’ve only had a grand total of TWO people send in Now & Then photos. If we really want to populate this area of the site, we obviously need photos from people. If you’re worried about your identity, don’t worry. I can post your photos on the site without your name, if that is what you desire.

Other than that, my family and I are enjoying being back “home”, after moving from Florida a month ago.

Keep the memories alive,
