What I suggest you do is call verizon's 800# Never go off what the verizon.com/dsl link tells you. It said I was unable to get it where I live. I actually get 3meg down service from them. I have had them for over 2 years. I have never lost service ONCE... pretty awesome and for the price you cant beat.

I use to have "gmpexpress" and now metrocast has taken over. Terrible company IMO.... I wont ever go back to cable unless its cox, roadrunner, comcast, or adelphia that comes down... Which wont be happening.

I will wait for fiber to be installed *pffft yea right* and get Verizon Fios !

thanks for the answere sound like a level 2 tech with verizon

Level 2 tech verizon says i am not too far from the central office

Phone lines do have some filters but according to level 2 tech its the same for the post office same run etc all the 994 numbers south of tall timbers

post office indicates on the verizon website it cant get dsl but they have it maybe its a buisness huh and a residence dont matter.

he told me to call local verizon and they were clueless but would charge $91 plus for a service call to check and see if i eventually could get the service.

Could be too far from an equipped Central Office. This roughly means greater than 4.5km on AWG26 wire, give or take a kilometer depending on line quality.

Phoneline is "loaded" with a loading coil added for voice quality. Loading coils filters out all high frequency signals, the very ones ADSL needs for transmitting.

Phoneline has AML. AML allows two phone numbers on one single wire pair. Unfortunately, it doesn't work with DSL, and most telcos will not remove AMLs even if you request it.

Line has an incompatible service. This can be:
- pay phone lines
- digital lines (FX/RX, Centrex, Microlink, Megalink, DEA, DNA, LDDS). DSL is an analog technology.
- PBX trunks and phone extensions
- CLEC loops (i.e. Bell Canada can't legally put Bell DSL on a Telus loop and vice versa)

Picture of how DSL is run to Home

Now that's stupid. They are going to come to your home and tell you, "Sorry, but it won't work, now pay me!"

I would explain to the local verizon people that according to there Tier II tech that you should be able to get it. They should NOT charge you for a line test, which is basically what it is. What I would do is call customer service and attempt to purchase it and see what they say. You wil either get the " Sorry its not available yet" or the " Certainly we will be glad to help you" Once that happens, and you get the equipment they will have to free of charge come out and do phone tests.

On a side note, its a pain in the ass especially if you have an older home with the filters. Every single phone you have in the house, you must put a filter on. You dont put a filter on the jack you will be using for the line running to your dsl modem.

Just a few tidbits of information.

the whole thing is stupid and try to get a good answer. I spent like three hours on the phone so many emails to their ecenter ive lost count. I dont want to go the cable route nor directway. i just think there are areas around the county that cable has and verizon is staying away like a gentlemans agreement.

Trust me... I have been down your road, and it sucks... It really sucks :( Like I said, call CS, dont email because thats just wasted time imo...you need to the verizon people to get anything done around here it seems. They use to have a local # in the phone book. I would try that... They may refer you to the CS line again.

From what I hear metrocast has gotten better, I wouldnt even CONSIDER DIRECTWAY....

Verizon is trying to compete with cable, look at FIOS. The cable companies are taking away Verizon (and AT&T and Qwest), voice customers with VOIP. So, there is no gentleman's aggreement, there is a war.
I was told the reason I could not get DSL was that a portion of the line from my house to central switch was fiber, DSL can't run on fiber. Last I spoke to Verizon, they said FIOS comes before DSL here.
Was thinking of Metrocast since now you can get it without T.V, have DirecTV. But seems like all I read here is problems. Do get faster connection on second line used for FAX and Internet, 50K+ since Verizon moved connection on switch panel. Before 19K was all I could get.

thanks for all of your responses. Maybe its time to do like they did in Texas and band together with the commissioners and bring them all to the table and se who makes the best offer. Like that would ever happen. But again thanks to all I just i could get out of the dark ages of dial up.
