Question Smith Island? Been there? I have questions...

Back again, still hoping to put together a kick-azz itinerary for my friends.

I know where to catch a boat to Smith Island. I can't find any information, though, on

what there is to do there

how much is there to keep people interested -- and for how long

and when the boat returns to Pt. Lookout.

Any info - as always - is greatly appreciated, whether answers to those questions or other information. Where to dine on Smith Island, things to see, are there little carts or bikes or Segways for rent (I know cars aren't allowed), etc.

This is a great place for getting questions like these answered, and I am grateful.

Smith island is BEAUTIFUL. Quiet. Friendly people. B and I spent a weekend at a Bed & Breakfast in Tylerton ( I think thats how you spell it, not sure) about 6 years ago. It was a quaint and pretty little place called The Inn Of Silent Music. Reservations are required and I'm sure you can find them online.

We took our own boat so I don't know anything about the boat schedules.

Not really much to do there..shop a little, fish or look at the Bay.

Visit the vistiors center thing in Ewell. It's cool.

The only other thing I can tell ya is ...have crabs at Rukes General Store. Wish I could remember where it was..but the locals will know.

I went there on a friend's boat from Crisfield, so I can't tell you anything about the trip from Pt. Lookout.

It's like a step back in time. If you are looking for excitement, Smith Island is NOT the place to be.

I like old things, and a simpler style of life. I just soaked in the atmosphere, walked around the island, checked out the docks, and had lunch at a little Mom and Pop roadside cafe kind of thing.

You have probably seen this link:

http://www.smithisland.org/

I would probably never go again, but I am glad that I went.

Smith Island cakes are another story...but I can get them here on the Eastern Shore.

Oh, man... that cake alone is enough to get H, my best friend, there. Even if we get bored. Thanks!

And you're welcome Fat&happy.

I agree with Wenchy though...I've done it..it's cool enough...certainly a step back in time...though I probably won't do it again. But those cakes

You're welcome.

I must warn you that we are not always helpful here, or nice.

You caught us on a good day.

I see from your posting in politics, that you have stepped into a minefield, but it looks like you will hold your own.

Have fun, and welcome to the forums.

Oh, I know it's not always nice. And I have a pretty thin skin, so chances are, depending upon what kinds of responses I get re: politics, I may not reply. But I have to speak my mind.

I get the feeling I'm standing WAY out in my blue in a pretty RED place.... Yet Maryland is purple. Go figure. :)

Thanks for the welcome. I appreciate it. :D
