Mosquito Control in Town Creek?

Just received a bill for $15 to cover mosquito control in the Town Creek area. This is out of the blue, and of course with no advance notice. There is an exemption, but it requires some BS paperwork....which I will do.

This payment is due to Town Creek Mosquito Control at 23064 Town Creek Drive. I know where you live.

This so-called directive is from the Democratic controlled legislature. I shall remember this is November when I vote.

Maybe it's a new scam? If they really want to collect money, they'll talk to you.

I was thinking it is a scam also. This address is a private residence.

I know a few years back a neighbor of ours would come around and collect money for mosquito control, she was like the coordinator for the neighborhood. Call Mosquito Control and ask them about it as well as the person collecting the money.

I lived in Town Creek several years ago and I paid the money for the spraying. They sprayed twice a season, I believe, but I don't see where it did any good. I still couldn't sit outside at night. If you don't pay will they skip your house? I don't think so and I don't believe you're obligated. You make the call!

The way the letter reads is that it is not optional unless you submit a written request to be exempted. The letter also states that a $5 per month penalty will be imposed if not paid by 30 Jun. That is a 396% yearly interest rate. Talk about usury!

I have lived in Town Creek for many years. I recall the earlier requests for donations. I did not contribute as I kept honey bees and was concerned about negative effects on them.

The calls start tomorrow. Hope to update you.

That's the part that sounds like BS. We have a person here in Spring Valley that collects $10/year for the neighborhood association for mosquito control, but the letter I recieve makes it very clear that it is optional. Personally, I happily pay the $10 even though I doubt the spray does much good, but I know what I would tell them to do with their spray if someone tried to force me into it.

I say don't pay 'em if you don't want to, they'd spend more money than they'd get back trying to collect it from you.

I'm against it too. They've been doing it for years. I don't think just driving down the street spraying gets whole lot of skeeters.

I have lived in Town Creek for 20+ years and this may be the first time that I will not be paying for mosquito control spraying. Ah, the annual invoice looked "professional" at first glance. BUT, read on.... I am to pay for a vacant lot, too?? I will let the neighbors take care of that space. YES, the calls to MDA Hollywood Control Office begin on Monday!!!!!!!

Thank God for the mosquito man and his truck. At least around here.
