Anyway, I think most McDonalds are franchises and, therefore, privately owned. They can hire and fire whoever they want and the only thing you can do about it is decide whether to suck it up or move on.

Since Maryland is "employment at will", they can fire you whenever they want to with no reason. The only way you could have recourse is if they fire you with a reason that isn't legal.

In other words, "Jane, you are fired" would be legal, and you would have no recourse.

"Jane, you ignorant sl*t, you are fired" would be something that could be contested in court.

Young people, especially these days, are such babies about everything. They expect their boss, the person whose money they take, will kiss their ass 24/7. That's not the way it is in the real world and the sooner they realize it, the better off they'll be.

I hate to be cynical about it, but Larry tells the story about how he was a teenage busboy and his boss yelled at him. Larry was so upset by this that he quit his job and stomped out on the spot.

If the boss is groping you or physically abusing you, that's one thing. If they're just talking snotty to you or making you clean the toilets, suck it up, lightweight. It's the fricken McDonalds - what did you expect?

Actually, I should say a big THANK YOU to Binky, Terry, Ron, Carole and the host of other jerk bosses I've had over the years. If it weren't for them, I might not have been so motivated to start my own thing.

I have been the subject of malicious statements, including those racially-oriented. That is the last thing I want to worry about when I go to work. I go to work to work and receive a paycheck, not be harrassed or insulted. Just yesterday an executive trainee made a personal slight against me and I called her on it, although I didn't file a complaint.

I don't necessarily want to side with the "wusses"... but the workplace should not include this behavior.

What if the job is not McDonald's but, for example, Lockheed Martin? Does that change the perspective? If the job is great but the boss is pathetic, do you still quit or deal with it - either way letting them prevail?
