Relocation advice PLEASE!

Hello everyone!

My name is Severa. I'm a wife, Avon representative, and mom of two very active sons, ages 7 and 9. My husband recently started work at DynCorp as an aircraft mechanic and the kids and I will be relocating to your lovely area sometime after Christmas (We're currently staying with my husband's mom, and no she's not the mother in law from hell - thank goodness!)

We're looking for the best neighborhood and school for our children. Our oldest son is diagnosed high functioning autistic. We're not looking to buy a house just yet, maybe rent a house or apartment. We also have a rather spoiled cat that will be coming along for the ride.

Any help you can lend us would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Interesting name.

I would recommend the Hollywood/California area.

Leonardtown schools are excellent. Brenton Bay, villages, academy hills, singletree, avan mar, hanover farms, chestnut hills, chestnut ridge....some of the subdivisons in leonardtown.

Thanks for the great welcomes so far. I'm hearing lots of great things about Leonardtown both here and from my husband's co workers. We're already talking with the special ed people at St Mary's about the kids schools. Now just a matter of finding a rental that'll take us and our spoiled cat. :)

Leonardtown covers a large part of the upper southern county. The school system is considered highly. But be prepared to spend some rent money. JMO stay away from the Great Mills High School District the elemetary schools in those districts are pretty decent again JMO. my children are at Greenview Knolls which seems pretty nice but i do not like it as much as when they were at Piney Point Elm.

Leonardtown is the marker for Northen County. The Great Mills district is NOT decent. Go North.

I say this with authority. I graduated from GM and grew up in LP. Horrific area.

Welcome! I have a friend in the area who has a son that is junior high age that has a similar autism type learning. They found a great school for him in the Calvert area... I can ask about it if that would help - he loves it. They actually stayed in the area because the school was such a big help to him... They are in the Saint Leonard area, but I'd have to ask about the school location...

Welcome ~ One recommendation~ DO NOT rent from Franzen Realty. If you'd like details; please PM me.

Hollywood, Leonardtown are nice locations; there's some nice places south of the base also (which has the added bonus of less traffic if traveling to the base for work). Town Creek is a nice neighborhood; it's centrally located and schools very close by. You may have already found this; but here's a link to St. Mary's schools:
