But at the age of 38 it was (if I remember right) 42 pushups, 50 sit ups, and 15:20

| People are definitely getting discharged for failing PT tests. I work as a civilian attorney (so I don't do discharges) at an Air Force base, but I work in the JAG office so I know what is going on and they are definitely having discharge hearings because of failing PT tests. In the Air Force, four consecutive failures kind of automatically triggers a discharge hearing (technically after four straight failures you commander has to make a recommendation on whether to go forward with a discharge, but 95% of the time the Commander will feel like they have to recommend going forward). At least the Air Force it is going to take multiple failures to get discharged on this basis though. |

I failed the Navy eye exam (OCS) but an Army recruiter insisted he could get in as an infantryman.

| I was a PRT coordinator for my Navy comand and believe me... it was all BS. I don't know how many times I had to send an enlisted sailor to fat body boot camp because they missed the run by a few seconds BUT, there were so many upper enlisted and even officers that were NO SHOWS for the test! Also, so many chiefs were on their ump-teenth physical waiver that it was ridiculous! After asking too many questions about these instances to the Comand coordinator.... I was promptly told that I was no longer needed as a coordinator. Go figure! Failed my final PRT test right in front of the command XO by stopping 20 feet from the line to "catch my breath" and missed it by 3 seconds! Was put on fat body boot camp duty and got to leave work early for 6 months to go play basketball at the gym! Best decision I made in my final year for the USN!! |
