Who wins? Who loses? TRICARE Lotto site

Who will have to go on pay-as-you-go TRICARE, who will still have TRICARE PRIME under the Obongo Department of Defense. See here.

Maybe should call this Read it and weep.

If this is based on ZIP code, what happens as the USPS slowly closes down local postal service? Do ZIP codes get consolidated or deleted?

What do you mean by not eligible? I entered the zip code and it said TriCare Prime still available. Did I enter something in the wrong place?

Don't enter the base zip code. Enter St Mary's or Calvert, etc. We still have it here, but the place I wanted to retire in NC, nope. I'm looking into the options available.

Maybe I read it wrong; since I only read it once... But it was my understanding that this just means that you no longer have to travel to the base to get care if you live more than the allotted number of miles away.

I didn't take that as necessarily being a bad thing, then you can just be seen by civilian doctors.

Years ago, I recall a friends parents driving from Dover to Bethesda because the military wouldn't pay for them for see a civilian specialist when they had one at Bethesda.

Maybe I'm missing something??

When your zip code is no longer eligible for TRICARE PRIME, you go to TRICARE Standard which is the old CHAMPUS. That means you pay for every visit and you pay more than if you were in TRICARE PRIME. If you're a healthy family and can foot the bill in event of a hospitalization or crisis, TRICARE Standard is probably OK.

Well, I guess I interpreted that the whole wrong way then. I will have to go back and re-read it. Thanks for the clarification.

Or you get a supplemental plan and other than the cost of it pay nothing out of pocket and get to pick your healthcare providers and don't need to get permission to see. Specialist.
