A bike to borrow?

Howdy all!

I am in the process of purchasing a bike in order to begin riding (I had a dirtbike as a kid, so I'm not completely new to the riding experience, I've just never done any street riding). I found a nice old Vulcan 700 that was (I'll get to that in a second) in great running order. I'm also signed up for a MSF course next week to make sure I get off on the right foot. (Since it's not being held by MVA, I need to bring my own bike - and therein lies the issue.)

Now the problem: The day after I agreed to purchase the bike, it began having some engine trouble. It has been diagnosed as the ignition coils and the parts have been ordered and the guy I'm getting it from has no problem fixing it. However, they may not be shipped in time to arrive this weekend, which means I would not have the bike in time for the course next week.

Does anyone have a spare/backup/old bike they would be willing to allow me use of for the two days for the riders course? Literally any streetlegal bike that runs would work. Compensation can be arranged.

Basically I am wondering if there is a kind soul out there generous enough to help a fledgling rider out of a pinch. I realized this is somewhat akin to asking to borrow someones girlfriend, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask (as some people go for that type of thing anyway ).

There is of course also the chance, and this is what I am hoping for, that the parts will come in before the weekend and all this will be a moot point. But with my luck lately I'm not holding my breath.

Thanks,
Palmer

Just PM itsbob and tell him you are undecided as to whether or not to by a Harley or a BMW. Ask if you can "test ride" his for a couple of days. I'm sure he'll be chomping at the bit to get his bike to you...

Who are you taking the course from? If it's SMCC, they provide a bike.

I know its a cliche~ however NEVER lend your bike out to anyone. I can't count how many friends did that only to have something happen. Then on top of it you mention its been awhile since you rode!!!! The horror.. the horror....

Yes I've heard that as well, but as I'm in a tight spot I hoped there might be someone out there that would be willing. Worst case is everyone says no, which as I also mentioned, is completely understandable.

But again, it will only be for the MSF course.
