Maryland Light House Challenge

It's a spirited ride around Maryland, and primarily the Bay as we try to complete the Maryland Lighthouse Challenge in a single day. ten lighthouses:Turkey Point, Concord Point, Seven Foot Knoll and Chesapeake Lightship, Hooper Strait, Drum Point, Cove Point, Point Lookout, Piney Point and Fort Washington. Starting from here about a 500 mile day, give or take.

Chesapeake Chapter, US Lighthouse Society - Maryland Lighthouse Challenge

A rider from the local BMW club usually leads the way, and has the rapport with the local lighthouse staffs that allow us to ride to each of the lighthouses.

Don't know the ride plans yet, but last ride (two years ago) we started at Point Lookout, Piney Point, Solomons, then worked our way around.

Can you email the giant this info? He may want to go. I'd only be interested if we stopped and ate each time.

This is a fairly lenghty ride and it's tough to make it all in one day due to all the stops at each lighthouse, but my daughter pillioned the last one and had a great time, and I'm sure she'll do this one too.

SHORT gas stops and bathroom breaks. We stopped for lunch/ gas somewhere (no idea where we were, but think it was after Ft Washington) and basically had a hot dog and shared a coke with my daughter.

Most of the lighthouses have some kind of support on site selling drinks and light food, and last year the final stop was in St Michaels and we had dinner at the crab house there. Little pricey, but worth every penny.

Couple things to keep in mind. Weather, Toll Roads.. and some lighthouses you have to pay to get in.

I think you'd have a good time.

Enough interested parties, maybe we can go out on our own and do a SOMD Lighthouse Challenge.

I wonder if they will add the newly dedicated St. Clements Island lighthouse.
