Any Myrtle Beach recommendations?

Wife is determined to spend a summer vacation there so I was wondering how much of a tourist trap MB really is. Does anyone have any recommendations for sightseeing or just general info?

Just south of Myrtle Beach is Garden City. It's not as "busy" and it is within a short driving distance of all the attractions. Pawley's Island is beautiful..not much to do, just a really pretty place.
