| Continued.. Well, to start off, if travel went as planned we'd have no stories to tell. The good thing is I learned some lessons on my way to NC so I started out the. day dressed right and watertight.. Hooked up the heated seats this morning.. and of course had the heated grips THOSE were a life saver today. Left NC it was 57 degrees, cloudy, but not rainy, BUT I dressed from the get go like it was raining. Looked up my directions on Mapquest before I left, and wrote the route numbers on my hand so I knew where to go (I thought 95 added a LOT of miles to the trip, very ironic in the end). I started off going OFF the island in the wrong direction, and right off the bat added about 30 miles to the trip (a 360 mile trip according to Mapquest, so my Tripmeter should read 800 miles when I pull into the driveway). Instead of going STRAIGHT to New Bern, I made an almost three sided box to get there reading the routes on my hand.. did I tell you how FUN this trip was! By the time I get 150 miles into the trip it's raining, and it never stops the rest of the trip.. and I find out that I forgot to right down the direction or the route.. ie.. I wrote 158.. but didn't say East or West, I assumed I wanted to go EAST off of 13, but in fact I just found out, I needed to go WEST.. added another 50 miles to the trip, and at this point the temperature starts to drop,, Well, i went an additional 80 miles in the rain and cold (I saw 42 this afternoon) made it home a lot later than planned, but I saw parts of NC I have NEVER seen.. and about 20 dumptrucks of BEAUTIFUL topsoil with a sign that said "FREE TOPSOIL" if only I had a dumptruck. With the lessons I learned on the way down there, I got home perfectly dry (my hands were wet, but not in sopping sponges, and the grips were HOT!!) Feet were a little chilly, but they stayed dry, and not one drop of moisture on my shirt or pants. Little longer than planned, but HEY, I'm here.. in one piece, and I can still walk!

| So my tripmeter SHOULD have read 800 miles when I got home, but it now reads 883... instead of 360 miles, I went 440 miles today. Almost EXACTLY the amount of miles I rode to get there.

| Freaky, they don't wear helmets here in Florida, I cringe every time I see a rider without a helmet, but I have seen some that do. If you had the choice, would you wear one? I would, I don't think my hubby would. |
