Went for a short ride in the rain..

I've been looking forward to this ride for a LONG time, and knew it was coming, and the weather went South, but I couldn't give up my ONE long ride on the bike.. I don't get many chances anymore for long rides, and this one I just did NOT want to give up..

So this morning, about 10:30 I took off for Emerald Isle NC on the bike. KNOWING what was coming, and already feeling the chill, I stopped at Mortons for a pair of waterproof gloves and a powerlet adaptor for the GPS..

Well I completed the ride, and now sit in my nice warm hotel room.. which was another frustration as I passed it three times looking for a Hilton, and it's a HAMPTON.

The bike performed flawlessly the only good part of the ride..

Started the day with my two piece riding suit, and added the pant liners when I stopped at Mortons.. Wasn't raining too hard, and thought the suit was doing well.. Until I stopped for gas and realized the rain was puddling in the seat of the pants, and I was soaked..

Also took the opportunity to peel off my new "waterproof" gloves and wring about a cup and a half of water out of each of them.. did that for two stops before I went back to my perforated leather.. Yeah my hands were still wet, but they didn't sponge up 3 pounds of water.

My NICE N103 Nolan helmet that I REALLY like.. I don't like it so much anymore.. During the day, the visor leaked but it didn't seem to be too bad, i could still see, but had to deal with cold wet cheekpads.. at night? Had to stop almost every 1/2 hour to wipe off the INSIDE of the visor. Couldn't see worth a damn.. and of course I screwed up on one stop and used the paper towels they have at the pumps to wipe it off.. YEAH.. BEAUTIFUL rainbow halos around every point of light the rest of the ride.

Bought a powerlet adaptor, and it gave up the ghost at the most inopportune time.. at the end of the journey when I was looking for a Hilton Hotel, that wasn't called a Hilton Hotel. (that added about 45 minutes to the ride).

i think when I got into the room and peeled all the layers off (after the wet pants fiasco i added the single piece rain suit.. THAT worked GREAT!) I must have had about 50 pounds of wet clothes on. i think the jacket weighed about 35 pounds.

Now I get to look forward to the ride home! At least I know where my house is!

My Olympia suit leaked.. My $99 dollar BMW rainsuit was watertight as a ducks ass..

I was looking at BMW waterproof gloves and just couldn't part with the $150 they wanted for them.. went for the $40 not so waterproof, not BMW gloves.. Guess a case of: You get what you pay for.

Though the thought of tooling down the road on a BMW with a BIG Harley Emblem on my back.. Wonder if anyone else would see the humor?

Get a pair of extra large dishwashing gloves for about $3 and wear them over light weight leather gloves. They're designed to provide good grip when wet and work great

It's time to stop comparing Obama to Hitler.
Hitler got the Olympics for Berlin.

Next time test your gear out first. Get dressed, hop on the bike and give bubba the hose.

And never depend on electronics to get you where you are going.

See my notes, above.
