The guy who wrote that movie (and the sequel) was from my home town in Minnesota.

The Majestic Ballroom they talk about in the second one? It used to be this cheesy place they'd have teen dance nights, it then became an antique flea market, and last I saw it had gone out of business and was about to be demolished.
