Thumbs down

I thought Narnia was very mediocre. I saw it in theatres and just couldn't get into it at all. There were a few bright spots, such as Tilda Swinton's magnificent performance as the White Witch and the special effects (which no doubt most of the budget went to), but the heavy-handed screenplay brought it down. It had so many flaws, such as a scene where Father Christmas shows up out of the blue and gives one of the protagonists a magical healing potion (wow, I wonder if one of her siblings will later be wounded and need, GASP!, magical healing potion? ). How contrived! Overall, the movie's a technical masterpiece, but a storytelling failure. Not recommended.

Then again, I'm not a big fantasy movie fan. I thought the Lord of the Rings trilogy was watchable, but overrated and the only masterful Harry Potter film is the third, in my opinion.
